The Book of F

What is F?

Look and judge for yourself.

Are you aware that your actions and societal prejudice cause harm. Yes just by you looking at these images, something is wrong. I am aware how the images I create are naturally biased and you the viewer, biased with me so let us look at these images through the male gaze and then lets us make assumptions and a judgement on the portrait sitter’s sexuality and worthiness. You see a naked body of the female form and it just that. A female form. Not a person with their own judgement or prejudice, or their own terms of sexuality and objectification.

How is it possible to form a totally objective opinion when the image creator and the portrait sitter already begin to subconsciously create an image which caters towards that male gaze? Exposed to such a constant barrage of objectified media it is only natural that you, the viewer, are going to look at these images and judge.

This might be a journey. That contains a narrative doesn’t it? A man checking and using his privilege. What can he know? Is this feminist art? Indeed it may not be feminist at all and actually be completely be misogynistic. How would we know? I am a man, or am I? But then, how would you know who I am?

Look and judge for yourself.

But what are you going to judge? What are your eyes going to be drawn to? The models age? Her breasts? Pubic hair or lack of? Vagina? Stretch marks? Admit it. You will look won’t you, and you will look and think of sex.

Are your eyes drawn to her nipples or does your mind wonder how she would taste? More likely you imagine an erect penis penetrating a vaginal object and you will be become aroused. On some level it is sexual although not for the physical aspect of sex. Why else would such photography exist or be created by a person?

Is it likely that will you applaud that the portrait sitters are a “real woman” and have empowered themselves, or would you feel disdain at their choice as glamour model? Will you applaud that they are naked or feel betrayed?

It Is A Commodification.

Art and nudity is a commodity paid for within society and at a cost to it. I do know that I have been exposed to 35 years of white western male centric media which is increasingly becoming hyper-sexualised. Maybe it has become so ingrained into the male psyche that it cannot be removed.

Judge

Sexual objectification exists through men objectifying women on a daily basis – female nudity is always sexualised. You, the viewer will get to decide in a moment, if a woman’s body is sexual regardless of whatever that woman feels about her body. A woman cannot be nude without being sexually objectified but you may believe that women should be able to display their sexuality in whatever way feels authentic to them, and here in lies the problem. A woman and her sexuality are commodities to be brought and sold to completely invalidate the woman as a whole. Western media further promotes body dysmorphia by narrowing down what is considered attractive so systematically that an unhealthy body image is created and further promotes terrible sex, clouding the issues of consent, foreplay and attraction. It promotes materialism and the view that women are less than human until they are simply objects.

In today’s society only the few can become astronauts.
